Batala Atenas – Playing for the hearing impaired

The « Batala Atenas » percussion band, since its inception, has shown great sensitivity for the community, minorities and under-development neighborhoods of Athens.  At every opportunity, through music they promote unity, solidarity and inclusion in society.

In 2011, a few months after the Batala Atenas band was created, a surprise presentation took place at the « Theater of the Deaf of Greece« , during the screening of the film « Touch the Sound » by Thomas Riedelsheimer, as part of the « Saturday Night with Meaning » program.  The intensity of the percussion literally hit the bodies of the hearing impaired, who immediately stood up and started dancing to the rhythms of samba reggae.
